Coming from construction and facilities, which is typically managed chaos on a good day, I was surprised by the dedication the sustainability and energy conservation individuals bring to the table.
These sectors are comprised of a people who are truly on the same page. I have never experienced such focused and collaborative vision. Yet so chill, not lazy, and certainly driven – just a calm perseverance. I marveled that with every question and every challenge, someone in my new group of sustainability/conservation friends had a solution or knew a way to find it.
One of the many cool things I reaped was a no-cost energy assessment. The evaluation was sponsored by the City of San Diego Green Business Network and prepared by Center for Sustainable Energy. This assessment was comprehensive and to top it off: It provided realistic recommendations to mitigate where we fell short. It also saved me hours of research and budgeting for consultants, as well as avoiding delaying the assessment until the next fiscal year's funding.
The assessment process was easy peasy. I met with a representative, provided building details along with utility bills then we did a building walk and that was it. We spent an hour and half together. It was so productive. It just felt good talking about my building and my efficiency plans and learning about the opportunities we had to conserve energy.
I could hardly wait to receive the final assessment. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Take a look for yourself.
