In early 2016 I accepted a position as the Construction and Facilities Manager in the corporate office of a San Diego based retailer. As I delved into my new job, I was shocked to see our electricity expense was coming in at $120,000 a year.
We had no processes and were not a 24/7 facility. This quickly became a challenge. I thoroughly enjoy troubleshooting, and this was going to be fun. You can read about this journey here.
I met Josh Dean and Ravi Bajaj, during their tenure with the San Diego Green Building Council at an SDG&E Energy Innovation Center workshop later that year. I knew instantly the SDGBC could help me find a path to lower our bill.
This particular workshop, “Integrative Process for Energy Management” was eye opening. Josh and Ravi spent 4 hours imparting their wisdom about a comprehensive approach to building systems and Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) . That was it, I was hooked. That morning was the beginning of my energy conservation and sustainability journey. I did not know it at the time, but those 4 hours were the catalyst for FF&E Resale™.
“San Diego Green Building Council is a community of building industry professionals and sustainability advocates with expertise in areas such as architecture, construction, design, urban planning, policy, and more. We work together to promote sustainable building and community practices to bring the San Diego region closer to achieving its climate, water, waste, and energy goals.”
Incidentally, this is when I met Rebecca Baptiste with the Center for Sustainable Energy®. She was instrumental in my journey and continues to inspire me. Read more about Rebecca here.
